Make more money from adsense
There are some people who earn more than $10,000 per month by adding google adsense to their websites, but many others who earn less than $100 per month. Not surprisingly, those in the second group want to be in the first group.
So how to become a big adsense earner? The answer, in principle at least, is straightforward - forget about adsense!
Newcomers to the adsense program are tempted to focus on the placement of the ads, the colour of the ads, and how to get more people to click on the ads - often by putting more, bigger ads at the top of the page. This is not a good use of your time.
The one and only way to make decent money from google adsense is to have a site with lots of visitors. Focus on that, and everything else will fall into place. Focus on getting the ad placement right and you might ‘leap’ from $2 per day to $3 per day. Focus on getting thousands of visitors a day to the same site and you might be earning $25+ per day.
So your initial plan could be:
- Think of a site that you would like to make, on a subject that you know quite well and are interested in. Are you interested in asbestos or San Diego lawyers? Probably not, so forget about them. Perhaps there is a sport, hobby, travel destination, computer game etc that you like. Write about it with passion.
I’m sure my 12 year old daughter could make a site about portable phones that would be far better than anything I could make, simply because she spends ages reading about them, looking at them, etc - I can’t compete with that level of interest, or fake the knowledge. You must want to write about the subject.
- Create your site, and make it the best site possible about the subject. Whether your niche is ‘valve amplifiers from the 1950’s’ or the ‘latest ipod accessories’ it has to be a site that you would want to visit yourself. (Ideally it will not be a ‘webmaster’ / make money online type site because they seldom click on ads!
- sit back, chill-out, and keep working on your site, a bit every day. No rush, it’s going to take months before you earn very much! Meanwhile put the word out about your site on related forums, online communities you belong to etc. It’s still not time to worry about money.
- You’ll also want to get links to your site during this time. There are lots of ways to get links but that’s not the subject of this article - try a few link exchanges (not too many and only with related sites), free directory submissions, and signatures in related forums to get started with this.
- After a few months you should have a site that people know about, want to visit, want to link to because it is useful, and shows up in the search engines. Now is the time to worry about adding adsense (or a suitable affiliate scheme).
That really is all there is to it. Some things not to do:
- don’t create sites from free articles
- don’t put too many ads on straight away
- don’t search for high paying keywords
- don’t check your statistics every half an hour to see if you’ve earned $1
- don’t expect to earn big money if you don’t want to make a big effort! The more shortcuts you take the less you will earn.
So there you have it. You’ve heard it all before, I’m sure. But it’s the one and only method that is sure to work.
